Chandler avoids asking athletes to pay for play

So far, Chandler schools have dodged bullets when it comes to budget cutting. But worries abound about a shortage of books, school supplies and what could happen next if budget cutting continues. Chandler Unified School District officials had warned that student-athletes might have to pay to take part in school sports if the Legislature were to cut $10 million out of the district budget. As it turned out, lawmakers cut $5 million to $7.5 million. So athletes won't have to pay to play unless deeper budget cuts occur in the future.
