Central school zone could see hefty changes
Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Paul McKendrick hopes to reform the system's Central school zone with several drastic changes, including year-round schools. McKendrick's plan also calls for remediation, enrichment and after-school programs, additional planning time for teachers, individualized student plans, family and mental health services, accelerated classes for advanced students, increased enrollment in advanced placement and international baccalaureate classes and credit recovery. But the biggest change would be altering the school year to accommodate classes year-round. The changes would only be implemented at Central zone schools: Central Elementary, Oakdale Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, Westlawn Middle and Central High schools.
