School voucher and teacher evaluation bills advance

Two key pieces of Gov. Mitch Daniels' education reform package cleared their first legislative hurdles Wednesday. One, House Bill 1003, would let parents use some tax dollars that would have paid for their child to attend public school to pay private school tuition instead. The other, Senate Bill 1, would tie teacher pay to yearly evaluations based largely on how their students do on standardized tests.
