Switching Schools Shouldn’t Be the Hard Part for Military Families

Congress has an opportunity to help the 1.3 million school-age children who sacrifice for their country because of their parents’ military service. The Education Savings Accounts for Military Families Act, sponsored by Sens. Ben Sasse, Tom Cotton and Tim Scott, was referred to the Finance Committee in March—and there it languishes. The bill would allow families to “pursue alternative educational options to apply for an education savings account worth $6,000 annually,” according to the sponsors. That would make it easier to enroll in a private school with much more flexible requirements, or help a family cover part of the cost of home schooling.
