State school funding deal comes under pressure as leaders work on final details

Durkin said the entire school funding package – including a controversial proposal to provide $75 million in tax breaks to people who contribute to scholarship funds at private and parochial schools – will be in one bill. That will force lawmakers to vote for the entire package if they want to approve the new school funding formula. Under the budget deal reached in July, general state aid for K-12 schools won’t be distributed until a new funding formula is in place.
