High marks for online school

Connor Velasco's school is at home. But he's not homeschooled. Like about 25 students in the Flagstaff area and 1,500 across the state, the sixth-grader is enrolled in Arizona Connections Academy, an online school that allows him to work at his own pace. Connections Academy is a public charter school, with state headquarters in Mesa and traction in northern Arizona -- as nearby as Flagstaff and as far out as Kayenta. "It doesn't work for everybody," said teacher Shauna Cooper, who visited Flagstaff last week for an information session with prospective families. "But regular public school isn't for everybody."
