Point of view: Public funds for public schools is a hollow slogan
When people say, “public funds for public schools,” they’re saying kids must attend the public school assigned by virtue of a home address. The only exception can be if parents have the money and/or time to separately pay for private schools or home schooling. Otherwise, the child must attend the local monopoly public school, whether the curriculum matches the family’s values, whether the school is safe, whether other children are well-behaved and whether the teachers and administrators care to make any real effort to pass on knowledge.
