Editorial: 16 is too young to quit school in new economy

The age proposal is no cure-all, but it's a step forward. In 19 states, 16-year-olds are allowed to drop out. That's a vestige from the pre-industrial era, when most Americans lived in rural areas and fewer than 10% of teenagers graduated.

Makes connection between unemployment and college degree and approves Obama's call to mandate kids stay in school to 18. Busts myth that all dropouts are unruly. Says what they need is alt ed exemplified by Catholic network. Could also add a good dose of school choice.
