Portland Schools Roundup: Teacher contract deal, weeding out weak teachers, all closed from public view
That won't be necessary, apparently, since the entire deal has been worked out behind closed doors, without involving the full negotiating team from either side or a single public discussion of potential contract terms. That saved time, avoided acrimony and, according to Superintendent Carole Smith, allowed for greater progress on substantive issues than in recent contracts negotiated with full or partial public knowledge of what each side was pushing for.
