County schools adopt increased lunch rates

Schools districts in Galveston County are preparing to increase lunch costs for the next school year to meet new federal nutrition guidelines in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The child nutrition reauthorization bill, which Congress approved in December, requires school districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program to increase lunch rates by at least 5 cents for the coming school year and consecutive years in order to receive federal reimbursements for the free and reduced lunch program.
