New Study Supports Connection Between Teacher Quality and Student Test Scores
Dec 14, 1:28 PM:
The more interesting aspect of this study is the connection between student evaluations and teacher effectiveness—this dimension is barely mentioned in the piece.
The piece needs to elucidate the other components of value-added analysis that underpin the study—to show the evolution in standards of assessment that make the study progressive and interesting. The final quote sets up that test scores are “a false choice” and yet, the article still emphasizes this criterion.
The Gates Foundation should have been mentioned high up, in the first graph.
The comment about “technical issues” relating to conducting analysis is not clear nor is it well supported. To wit: “Often teachers are not assigned to subjects that a state assesses.” What does that mean?
